Our Story

The founders of Dollar Value are Glenn & Eunice Williams.  In 2009, they were joined by two new Directors, Michael & Lori Luke, who have moved to New Zealand from the United States.
 
Prior to founding Dollar Value, Glenn was in a professional career where he completed a New Zealand Certificate in Management. Glenn is a Member of both the NZ Institute of Management and of the Institute of Directors and is the Managing Director of Dollar Value.
 
Eunice previously worked as a physiotherapist, and she has worked in the Dollar Value business for the past ten years while also caring for their three children. Currently Eunice is Purchasing Director.
 
Glenn and Eunice established Dollar Value Whakatane in mid 2001, and after selling that store to a franchisee, opened a Dollar Value store in Bayfair.  Dollar Value now operates from 4 locations: Fraser Cove Shopping Centre; Fashion Island Papamoa; Bethlehem Town Centre; and since March 2010, on Tutanekai Street in Rotorua.
 
Michael had an extensive career in IT and Market Research in the States, and spent more than 10 years as a business consultant, helping small and large companies maximise their potential.  Michael is the Director of Store Operations for Dollar Value.
 
Lori was in corporate Marketing roles for most of her career, including as VP, Marketing for the frozen food division of the HJ Heinz company.  She spent the five years before relocating to New Zealand as a Business Consultant and launching start-up business.  Now, Lori is the Director of Marketing. 
 
The four Directors have spent a significant amount of time developing plans to grow sales significantly, including a consistent store layout, increased advertising and promotion, enhanced product mix with the inclusion of branded products in key categories, a proprietary POS system, a comprehensive financial management system, and most importantly, a return to Dollar Value’s traditional emphasis on both customer value and a positive shopping experience.  A recently developed business relationship with Unilever, Cussons and Thos Holdsworth has proven to be very successful, and we are looking to establish other well known brands within our stores.
 
We are confident that the supplier-side experience and business understanding of the rapidly expanding Dollar channel in the US that Michael and Lori bring to the franchise, coupled with the extensive retail knowledge enjoyed by Glenn and Eunice, will translate into spectacular growth for Dollar Value.  Our new business model has proven to be very successful so far!
